About City of Poway
Located in northeast San Diego County, Poway is known as "The City in the Country" and prides itself on the fact that over half of the city’s 39.4 square-mile area is preserved as dedicated open space. The community of close to 50,000 residents offers a diverse range of housing options, an outstanding school district, a thriving business park with over 19,000 jobs, a broad range of dining and shopping opportunities, beautiful parks, 78 miles of trails, community events throughout the year and more. Poway is a great place to live, work, and play!
Community Park
Community Park offers a diverse array of amenities and opportunities for families, neighbors, and friends to come together in the heart of Poway. Teams take to the field in baseball, while kids play on the adventure playground. Skaters can ride the ramps and rails, while swimmers complete laps. Dogs run free in the dog park, while future ballerinas twirl around the dance room.
Cherished city-sponsored events take place at Community Park throughout the year, including Winter Festival, where there’s 100 percent chance of snow every year, and Summer Movies in the Park. There are creative adventures geared especially for age groups from young children to teenagers. During the summer months, expanded classes and camps offer opportunities to explore cooking, science, sports and much more.
At the centerpiece of the park is the new Mickey Cafagna Community Center, which offers multi-generational programming as well as intimate venues to celebrate life’s milestones and achievements. Through the City’s partnership with the Poway Valley Senior Citizens Corporation, the center also offers opportunities for older adults to engage in learning, play bingo, and enjoy socializing.
Community Park is not only the heart of Poway, but a centerpiece in a transformation that is happening along the town center area of Poway Road. In 2017 the City adopted an updated Poway Road Specific Plan that brought a new vision for mixed commercial and residential land uses in this area. There are three mixed-use projects currently in process within the Town Center District and provides over 400 new housing units, including a new senior affordable apartment complex with a veterans preference.
